ABK AOTS - N. Damotharan "5S" Award



One of the cornerstones for success and excellence in a modern organization is to implement 5S practice in a structured way "5S" techniques was originally introduced in Japanese companies as a prerequisite for Total Quality Management (TQM) and Total Productive Maintenance ( TPM). It slowly spread to other countries and Indian companies adopted these techniques in the 1990's. 5S techniques (SEIRI, SEITON, SEISO, SEIKETSU, & SHITSUKE) are very useful in reducing waste in operation and helps in improving Quality & Productivity. It also enhances Teamwork among employees and builds customer confidence.



Keeping the importance in mind, ABK - AOTS DOSOKAI, Tamilnadu Centre organized the first ever International Competition in the year 2001 on "5S" Techniques in which 30 participants from Srilanka, Egypt, Bulgaria, & Nepal, and 150 delegates from India attended. Best Case studies were presented by experts in the field from India and abroad. At the end of the seminar Carborundum Universal Ltd based at Chennai (a group company of Murugappa Group) announced an award ABK AOTS – Cumi "5S" Annual Award among Small & Medium Industries located in Tamilnadu. During 2004 ABK - AOTS DOSOKAI, Tamilnadu Centre and Chennai District Small Scale Industries Association (CDISSIA) jointly instituted an award for the Tiny Sector Industries named us ABK AOTS – CDISSIA 5S Annual Award.



On experiencing and recognizing the importance of these unique techniques and winning many more coveted awards for the same, Precot Meridian wanted to spread the benefits of 5S to textile industry and hence decided to jointly sponsor the 5S Award with ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI, Tamilnadu Centre. This annual trophy named as ABK AOTS - N. Damotharan 5S Trophy was instituted from the year 2005 onwards in remembrance of late Shri. N. Damotharan, the founder Director of Precot Meridian. Many Textile companies in spinning & garment sector filed their applications and the units were audited by the panel of experts from ABK - AOTS DOSOKAI and Best in Class companies.
